The first on the types of logos would be an emblem. What comes to your mind when you hear the word “emblem”? Yes, emblem logos are exactly that. They are basically an emblem, that is font and image inside a symbol or shape. Moreover, they give a classic look have striking impact on people. These are common for educational institutes and government agencies. Some of the best examples for emblem logos are BMW, Harley-Davidson, and Starbucks, which are shown below.
Abstract mark are abstract geometric designs that represent your brand. Instead of representing your brand with words or recognizable pictures, these represent an idea. Furthermore, these may contain your brand’s mission and moto in an abstract form. These are great as they are unique and a second-time customer can recall your unique design readily. Wordmark or logotype are font-based logos that focuses on the brand’s name. They commonly have the company’s name or its abbreviation. Pictorial mark logos are icon/graphic based logos. They are easily recognizable and are generally inspired by real things with a different take on them. For example, have a look at Apple’s logo. It is instantly recognizable and the bite at the apple makes it unique and shows a different take on it. Some good examples of pictorial mark logos are Twitter, Apple, and Shell, which are shown below.
Lettermark or monogram are typography-based logos that are made up of the brand’s initials. These are great for brands and organizations with long names as these use few letters and convey the message effectively. H&M, IBM, and McDonald’s which are shown below are some great examples of logomark or monogram.
As the term calls it, it is a combination of two elements, a lettermark or wordmark with a combination of a pictorial mark, mascot, or abstract mark. With combination marks, your clients or customers start to associate your brand with your mark right away. Some great examples of combination marks are Adobe, Rolex, and Adidas, which are shown below.
